Whip spiders in Puerto Rico

Of the roughly 160 species of whip spider, many inhabit both tropical forests and caves. However, deforestation has now limited some species to caves, where populations are relatively isolated and at higher risk for extirpation. We investigated movements of cave-dwelling members of one species of whip spider.

Bats in the Great Lakes Region

The Great Lakes region is an excellent place to study bats. To what degree is water a barrier to their movements? What weather conditions are migrants likely to encounter, and how might this impact their decisions? What do bat populations on islands look like compared to the mainland?
