Bats of the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge

Bats are the second most speciose group of mammals on the planet (after rodents), but surveying them is tricky! In the summer of 2013, I led a team of biologists on a month-long survey of bats at the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge. We added two new species to their list of bats, including the hoary bat (pictured left).

Bike across the U.S.A.

In 2010 I rode my  bicycle from the Mississippi River to San Francisco, CA. This was an amazing two-month journey that allowed me to experience first-hand many ecosystems, local histories, and cultures of my country. I kept detailed notes of the wildlife and people I encountered. I met a wide variety of people, who were often kind enough to invite me into their homes . I plan to eventually complete the transect, finishing in D.C.

Volunteerism

Since high school I have volunteered with various organizations. The most consistent among these has been the Sierra Club, but you can find a number of other projects listed on my CV, such as Toyota's Tree Campus U.S.A. campaign (pictured left).
